Μetabolomics
Until recently, the selection of embryos suitable for embryo transfer was based only on morphological criteria. The method of metabolic metabolism control progresses one step further, by controlling at micromolar level the metabolites (amino acids) produced by the embryos in cellular processes and can be the key to selecting the best embryos. It is based on the discovery that non-viable embryos secrete certain specific amino acids, which differ from those secreted by viable embryos.
This is a non-invasive technique that lasts only two minutes and which aims at identifying metabolites that are related to non-viable embryos so that the best quality embryos can be selected for embryo transfer in IVF. We essentially receive the “footprint” of the physiology and function of the embryos and distinguish the healthy from the unhealthy.
The metabolomics method is indicated in couples with:
- history of poor quality embryos following IVF
- a history of repeated miscarriages
- a history of multiple implantation failures following IVF
