Dr. Alexandra Georgakopoulou is an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with 20 years of experience and expertise in Fetal Medicine, advanced Obstetric & Gynecology Ultrasound and high-risk pregnancy care.
She studied at the Medical School of the University of Bonn in Germany, where she graduated in 1993. She then moved to the UK and she specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology on the basis of the training program set up by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in Great Britain. In 2001 she became European specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
She further specialized in Fetal Medicine at St George’s University Hospital and King’s College University Hospital in London. Her expertise is related to the prenatal diagnosis of congenital abnormalities of the embryo, the performance of nuchal translucency ultrasound and anomaly ultrasounds, and amniocentesis and trophoblast biopsy.
In 1999 she received the postgraduate diploma in Advanced Obstetric Ultrasound from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists United Kingdom. In 2000, she was certified by the Fetal Medicine Foundation in Great Britain, and her name has since been included in the worldwide list of physicians evaluated each year and entitled to use the Neural Transparency program internationally as found on the foundation’s official website (www.fetalmedicine.com ).
In 2005 she returns to Greece and starts working at MITERA Maternity Hospital in Athens, as an Obstetrician Gynaecologist with special interest in Fetal Medicine, where she continues to work until today in the department of Fetal Medicine.
In 2005 she founded in Athens the advanced Obstetrics and Gynecology Center gonimotis where he continues to work until today. She performs there all the specialized examinations, such as embryo nuchal translucency ultrasound , B-level and Doppler ultrasounds, amniocentesis and trophoblast biopsy, the non-invasive genetic test and the complete follow-up of pregnancies.
She holds the Greek National license Υ7α / ΓΠ10373 for the execution of Obstetric and Gynecological Ultrasounds, following success in the relevant examinations organized by the Greek Ministry of Health.
She is a member of many national and international scientific societies such as the International Ultrasound Society in Obstetrics and Gynecology ISUOG, the Greek Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Hellenic Society of Perinatal Medicine. She has a continous scientific work, either as a conference organizer for fetal medicine or as a guest speaker.
